Tested Travel had the opportunity to spend a long weekend in Hilton Head, South Carolina. While we were busy visiting the many fun and special places on the island, we did get a chance to eat!

Comfort food in an elegant setting

The Food:

Michael Anthony’s Cucina Italiana offers a traditional Italian menu with pastas, veal, steak and fish favorites.  Our meal stated with two fantastic antipasti — an antipasti board of artisan meats and cheeses and caprese.  Both were fresh and flavorful.  We then ordered two great mains — Pasta alla Gricia (the traditional roman pasta) and Scaloppine di Vitello all Rustica (veal tenderloin topped with fontina cheese in a rustic sauce of red peppers, onions, olives, artichokes, spicy cherry peppers, white wine, garlic and fresh tomato over spaghetti).  My mouth is watering just thinking about it!  The mains were delicious!  Subtle, sophisticated flavors wrapped in luscious, comfort food. Yum!

We opted for the wine flights.  With several wine flights to chose from, we relied on our knowledgeable server to make suggestions.  And terrific suggestions, they were!

The Ambiance:

Michael Anthony’s Cucina Italiana boasts that is casual fine dining.  Tested Travel would say that is about right.  The food and setting are elegant, but like many restaurants located in vacation areas, there is a more casual vibe.
